Ian Sutherland's practice focuses primarily on insolvency related matters, commercial law and litigation with an emphasis on banking litigation, banking law and secured transactions. Ian has significant experience in security preparation and enforcement, debtor-creditor law and insolvency law, including bankruptcy proposals and reorganizations. He regularly assists financial institutions in the realization process in relation to commercial, residential and agricultural enterprises and represents a number of clients with respect to commercial transactions and disputes. Ian's practice has focused on restructuring issues, particularly those involving instrument and court appointed receiverships, as well as those dealing with matters relating to the use of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (“CCAA”) in the province of Saskatchewan.
Ian is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada and has been awarded the “Best Lawyers of Canada” listing in the categories of Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Law and Banking Law. Ian has been a member of the Firm's Executive Committee since January 1, 2001.
