Lauren J. Wihak, K.C. will participate in the Law Society of Saskatchewan's (LSS) in-person seminar "Navigating the New Landscape: Administrative Law Practice After Vavilov" on October 22, 2025, in Saskatoon.
This full-day seminar will consider the significant impact that the Supreme Court's decision in Canada (Citizenship and Immigration) v Vavilov, 2019 SCC 65 (Vavilov) has had on administrative law practice. Building on an article that she recently had published in the Alberta Law Review, Lauren will present on the effect of Vavilov on administrative law in Saskatchewan, particularly as it relates to administrative decision-making that is subject to a statutory right of appeal, and on a number of undecided issues from Vavilov that are affecting the Saskatchewan landscape. Lauren will also moderate a fire-side chat with Justice McCreary of the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan.
Lauren is a partner at McDougall Gauley, with a practice focusing on administrative and public law, and appeals. She frequently appears in the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan, as well as before the Supreme Court of Canada. Lauren has spoken and presented at numerous conferences and seminars on administrative law across Canada, and has had a number of her published articles focusing on issues in administrative law cited by Canadian courts including the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan and the Supreme Court of Canada. Lauren was a member of the organizing committee for this event.
