Profile
Sue Barber maintains a broad based civil litigation practice but enjoys a focus on labour and employment law and human rights issues in the workplace as well as on pension matters in the workplace. She has provided advice respecting corporate reorganizations and downsizing, employment agreements and terminations and all other facets of labour relations and employment law. She has significant depth of experience in the area of employment and consideration of severance packages in termination matters. She has been designated in the Canadian Lexpert directory as a leading practitioner in labour and in The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of labour and employment law. She has acted as counsel for both unions and management in litigation and collective bargaining and is also a recognized arbitrator. Sue has rendered numerous decisions in labour disputes and human rights cases and has conducted investigations and made recommendations respecting workplace harassment issues.
With her litigation experience, Sue has appeared in a number of forums including the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board, Arbitration Boards, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Court of Queen's Bench, Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal. She regularly advises clients in the areas of contract litigation and construction litigation.
In addition to her professional experience, Sue has been very involved as a volunteer in the community. In 2000 her efforts were recognized when she was awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in Business, Labour and Professions. In 2007 she was named in Saskatchewan Business Magazine as a "Woman of Influence" and, in the same year, received the Community Service Award from the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch.
