Lawyer Profile
Gordon's extensive labour and employment law background includes labour relations, arbitration, collective bargaining, human rights, labour standards, workers' compensation, OH&S, mediation, judicial review and human resource management. His labour law experience arose out of his active involvement in many industrial sectors, including financial services, post-secondary education, food and general merchandise retailing, wholesaling, petroleum, agricultural feed production and sales, livestock production, grain handling, newpaper publishing, trucking, terminal operations in several Canadian ports, bakery products manufacturing, shipping, municipal transit services, first nations community services & businesses, telecommunications, broadcasting and other media, and agribusiness sales and services.

In addition to various legal roles, Gordon has worked both as a front-line labour relations practitioner and as a senior human resources executive for provincial and interprovincial corporations. Most recently, he was the Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Labour Relations for a large Saskatchewan credit union, and guided them through two mergers in two consecutive years without any labour disruptions.

Previously, Gordon was a Vice Chairperson on the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), where he was charged to administer a newly revised Canada Labour Code. During his five years in Ottawa with the CIRB, he wrote over 200 decisions, regularly dealing with constitutional and jurisdictional challenges. He oversaw the labour adjudications arising from two of the largest telecommunication mergers in Canada's history, regularly dealt with illegal strikes in Canada's ports, handled labour relations issues arising out of first nations activities, dealt with numerous essential services applications, and interpreted both national and international legislation.

Gordon has made or prepared representations on behalf of employers before all levels of courts and administrative tribunals. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board from 1995-1999. He has been a chief negotiator in collective bargaining since 1983, in both the public and private sectors, and negotiated an end to one of the longest strikes (8+ years) in Saskatchewan's history.
